Spring into Spring with femininity! Shrug off the androgynous looks featured in past seasons and polish up your classic glam channeling the 1950s with glowing skin and RED LIPS.
What Shade?
By choosing the right color, you will ensure a successful smile. Candy-apple red suits fair complexions. For darker skin tones, you can always opt for shades with maroon or purple tones in it.

For a fun and fantastic Spring pout, I am loving orange red…as featured on gorgeous model Kat Torres on the COVER of the amazing FACEON Magazine! When doing makeup for shoots, I prefer professional palettes that allow me to specially mix all of my lip colors. For Kat's color Bold Orange lip I used the Ben Nye Rainbow Wheel and combined red and orange to create the color of choice.

What formula?
Once you have selected your shade, you must also choose the formula that suits you. A matte lipstick is a great option if you want your lipstick to last longer. A glossy red lipstick will give you a modern look. You may also choose one of the new formulas of lipstick that condition while coloring like Armani Rouge Ectasy.

How to begin?
The key to wearing red lips is to ensure you apply it the correct way.
  1.  Smooth surface. Use a sugar scrub to remove dead skin cells from the area.
  2. Prime and correct. Tap on a small bit of concealer on and around your lips to create the perfect canvas. This will help draw attention to your lips and should blend with the natural tone of your skins.
Draw the perfect outline. Use a lip liner to artfully draw a perfect lip. This is the most crucial step in the process so take your time. Carefully create the shape you wish you were born with. Don't be afraid to go just outside your natural lip line. Then fill in the entire lip. Try my own Water Proof Gel Liner in Marachino.

Long wear lasts!
I always recommend using my own Superwear Lip Cream as a base to any great lip. It is available in many shades. For the fantastic red, choose Scandalous. Apply this with a lip brush to ensure a perfect pout. This will create a base that will last all and and through the night!

Top it off?
At this stage you can apply a light layer of lipstick. My personal favorite is Nars Red Lizzard. This is a great balanced red tone that looks great on all skin colors in a semi matte formula. Gently blot off excess once you have applied.

Get it on right!
The most important part of doing your lips is in the careful application. I am forever thankful to makeup artist extraordinare Lebec Dewese for teaching me years ago to "perfect my pout" by  instructing me to carefully draw outside my natural lip-line to create a fuller shape that still looked natural.

NYFW LAUNCH Recap

February 6th, marked the second Manufacture New York Launch collective runway show with a NYFW 2014 Presentation including designers Minnoji, Modu and Mimi New York.  LAUNCH combines a state-of-the art runway with luxurious retail and showroom space where designers can show their latest collection on the runway, under the best lighting and sound conditions, to fashion’s top press, wholesale buyers, loyal customers and VIPs.
Global Fashion Week Stylist, Marco Vogt expertly headed the hair team to design the creative coifs for Modu and Mimi New York. The hair tools used were provided by Eva NYC.

It was super busy where all the hair and makeup magic was being performed with so many things going on at once. As with any show, several models stray in at the end creating a crazy bustle of action to get everyone completed on time. This is part of the excitement and adrenaline rush that is part of the Fashion Week experience.

Makeup Artist Extraordinaire Daniel K led his team to create the distinct makeup looks. Makeup was provided by Paint Cosmetics and the artists were generously comped unique back packs by Spray Ground

The designing duo, Modu, menswear designer Yuteng Mo, who loves tailoring, and womenswear designer Shlchao Du, who prefers clean lines, teamed up for the first time for this collection featuring contemporary shapes.

The Makeup Look for the Modu models featured masculine matte contours with a nude lip, heavy brows, and an accent of a few individual lashes added to the outer corners of each eye.

The hair for the Modu presentation was smoothed back into pony tails. They were secured by a long strand of elastic that was wound around multiple times to enable the pony to stand away from the head 2". The elastic was then covered by wrapping with the model's own hair.

Mimi New York, presented the "metamorphosis" collection with elegant couture gowns and hand made shoes. Mimi’s aesthetic vision integrates the artistry of the past and establishes a sustainable future through the reuse of antique textiles to create one-of-a-kind, handmade, couture garments.

The hair for Mimi New York was a tedious labor of love that was definitely worth the efforts. Small sections of hair were sprayed with Eva NYC Hold Me Tight Hairspray, and inserted into a foil. Each foil packette was then folded accordion style and heated with a flat iron. When the hair cooled the foils were removed to reveal a unique zig-zagged textured pattern. The hair was then lifted and pinned to create  triangular shapes with random strands elegantly dropping down. To add even more interest, a fishbone braid curved around on the top.
