See original article at The Hair Nerds.

When it comes to the Academy Awards,  Hair Nerds only have one thing on their minds… The lovely Sherri Jessee was kind enough to give us a hands on tutorial for this year’s hottest styles to grace the red carpet.  Be sure and check out Sherri’s blog and stalk her on a regular basis… because you know we will!!

Emma Stone: Awesome Auburn Chignon

1.  Prepare the canvas for a long lasting up-style. Distribute a small amount of a styling cream to create hold and shine and blow dry with a round brush.
2.  Create a deep side part and sweep fringe across forehead. Using a soft bristle brush, smooth back and secure in a pony-tail at the occipital.
3.  Split the pony tail into two to three sections: A and B and C.
4.  Distribute a small egg sized amount of mousse to section A to smooth flyways and create added hold and control.
5.  Take section A and pin it a few inches up and away from the pony tail.
6.  Continue working with section A and now pin it a few inches below the pony-tail (creating a zig zag effect).
7.  Tuck under and secure the ends using a few U- Pins.
8.  Repeat the process with sections B and C using your creativity as you loop and pin the sections to create an elegant knotted chignon. Spray the entire set with hairspray for excellent hold and shine.

Penelope Cruz: Decadent Chocolate Waves

1. A terrific way to change up your look with out sacrificing your length is to create a Faux Bob.  Distribute a small amount of texturing cream throughout your hair and blow dry.
2. Curl small sections of your hair on a 1 1/4″ ceramic curling iron. Clip each curl and allow to cool.
3. Remove clips and brush hair with boar bristle brush and form the curls into waves.
4. If your hair is long, you can twist the back section up and tuck it under and secure with bobby pins to create a shorter shape.
5. Spray with a touchable firm holding hairspray.

Michelle Williams: Buttery Blonde Pixie

1.  A great hair cut and color is the basis of this stylish coif.
2.  Achieve a beautiful buttery blonde with a high lift blonde like RUSK Deepshine Super Lightener.
3.  Cut with texturizing scissors like the RUSK Beta blades. (For fast cuts, RUSK Beta Blades create the perfect   texture and simultaneously remove length.)
4.  Apply a small amount of a smoothing oil and finger style in place.

Daphne Guinness at New York Fashion Week

In this article you will find a series of photos and videos documenting an amazing day where I did hair for a New York Fashion Week extravaganza.  See footage from the event as Paper Magazine's very own Mr. Mickey interviews one of the most stylish women alive, Daphne Guinness!

A true hairdresser's dream come true... working  New York Fashion Week was an exciting experience! This particularly long day (17 hours) was especially interesting as it included fashion, music, models, film, and a photo shoot. Magically set in a breathtaking venue, a beautiful old church has been transformed by the Angel Orensanz Foundation to an event space.

The The Angel Orensanz Foundation for the Arts.

At this show, style icon and fashionista, Daphne Guinness debuted her short film entitled, The Legend of Lady White Snake. The film starring The Honourable Daphne Guinness herself, was based on a Chinese legend, directed by Indrani, and dedicated to the spirit of Alexander McQueen.

Watch a preview of the amazing movie here.

Still photos taken from the film showing Daphne in breathtaking couture were hanging throughout the halls. Photography duo Markus Klinko & Indrani's work is spectacular. The massive framed photos on display were each available for a $40,000 donation to charity.

I started my day crafting interesting up-styles for the Viva Girls. These 12 young women from China were not only beautiful but extremely talented. After the film debut, they played the most interesting, erie music.

See a few of Viva-Girls and their instruments.
Fashion Week hair guru, Jon Reyman, demonstrated how to build these intricate up-styles and the team set to work re-creating the shapes for each of the 12 girls. The labor intensive styles began first by crimping the entire head. Lots of firm holding hairspray was used to achieve a strong set. The hair was brushed out, divided, wires were attached, and the hair was teased and formed into cones.

See one of the Viva Girls and me after I did her hair. The girls had a photo shoot where they each posed with their instruments at the front of the church.
The makeup on the girls was stunning. The team from MAC Cosmetics led by Senior Artist, Romero Jennings, and Tim Pearson, expertly painted Fluideline Gel Liner to create the eyebrows!
Later we prepared the hair for 10 more gorgeous models. The grand finale to the event was runway show of fantastic, futuristic Gehnghis Khan fashions presented by GK Reid.

Photographer, John Perez, snapped this pic of Faatemah and me working backstage. I hope you enjoyed this blog as much as I enjoyed documenting the super cool event! Please leave your comments, follow me on TwitterFacebook, and subscribe to my Sherri's Steps to Style blog.

How To: Romantic Valentine's Look

Make Valentine's Day extra special by creating a romantic look with your hair and makeup. Watch the quick demo as seen on Daytime Tri-Cities and follow the easy steps listed below to achieve the hottest looks for your honey!
Check out these hairstyles for some inspiration on flirty, feminine hairstyles.

1.Scarlet Johanson looks her usual gorgeous with soft, undone waves.  These touchable loose curls are super sexy and flirty. For extra hold, mist each section with RUSK Being Sexy Hairspray and curl using a flat iron. Yes, a flat iron... Watch the video to learn how. For this look, direct all curls away from your face and then run your fingers through for soft separation.

2. A sideswept pony-tail like this one Carrie Underwood is another fantastic flirty look and is very easy to acheive.  After curling your hair, simply twist the hair off to one side and pin to secure with small bobby pins like these by Conair.

3. Girls, keep in mind,  makeup should be soft and natural.  I would suggest using warm tones on the eyes, and create a rosy glow on the cheeks and don't forget to apply kiss-proof, long wear lip color like MAC Pro Longwear Lip Color .
